Black Republicans?

by OOTM

What do you get when you cross a black person, a Republican, and a Church of Christ preacher?

Whether or not it sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, what you really get is Herman E. Wesley, a black Church of Christ preacher from Montgomery, Alabama who is making news by trying […]

South Park Joins Cartoon Wars

It’s a sad state of affairs when America has to look to the likes of Matt Stone and Trey Parker for some backbone in defending freedom of speech against the islamofascist onslaught. The Cartoon Jihad scared too many Americans into self-censorship — a first step toward dhimmitude.

Michelle Malkin has a round-up on the […]

Not Ready to Make Nice

I just heard the new Dixie Chicks single (listen). It’s a big fat poke in the eye to their legions of fans who were shocked and appalled by lead singer Natalie Maines’ onstage comments during a London concert seven days before the invasion of Iraq: “Just so you know, we’re ashamed the President […]

Off Topic: Meredith Vieira is Older than Reported

OOTM

According to the Washington Post, Meredith Vieira is 49 years old. I’m not picking on the WaPo, because several other papers are also reporting Vieira as 49.

The problem? She’s 52.

The Hartford Courant reported that fact, probably before the talking points including the “49″ story hit the media.

According to a 1989 USA […]

Don’t Mind the Facts

Surely, you’ve heard someone say, “Don’t let the facts get in the way of a good argument.” Regardless of who said it to you before, Thomas Sowell’s latest column probably says it better, and he lays out the consequences rather well:

People who have made up their minds and don’t want to be confused by […]

Towards Pessimism

Mark Steyn isn’t the only one tempting me with pessimism lately.

This post about “The Most Disturbing Movie of 2005″ makes me afraid to grow old in a society whose conscience has grown so callous:

What does it say about our culture when even Christians can find quasi-pedophilia and scatology “poetic and penetrating”? Forget the […]

Steyn On CSPAN

We caught Mark Steyn on C-SPAN over the break, giving a typically funny and perceptive speech. He’s recently moved to New Hampshire from Canada, and his observations about America are of the sort it generally takes an immigrant to see.

The video is available here for RealPlayer, but you’ll have to move slider over to […]

Does anyone think anymore?

Seriously. Have we lost all capacity for simple distinctions and rational thought? Is this a good faith misunderstanding or are some people so anxious to believe that the U.S. is responsible for all the evil in the world that they just hear what they want to hear?

Today’s the Day

I’ve taken a day off of work today. The federal government is opening two hours late due to the snow.

We’re going with the kids and a group from our homeschool co-op to see the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I’ll report back later with reactions to the film.

Independent Voices

Sometimes it takes someone from the outside, with no formal training or experience to demonstrate that a discipline has lost its way. Michael Yon has done that for journalism.

If you haven’t been to his website, go now. Especially if you have heard the chorus of voices calling for us to cut and run […]
