If more Muslim leaders sounded like the Aga Khan — and if they spoke out more often — the world would have a better chance of avoiding a protracted clash of civilizations.
He’s a British citizen living in France and educated in the West. He is also the leader of the Ismaili, a Shia sect of 15 million people. It is the second-largest in the world.
In this NPR interview, he explains why pluralism needs to be understood and promoted as a basic value, in the Islamic world as well as in the West. It’s worth a listen, if you can put aside your suspicion that the part of the Aga Khan is being played by James Mason.
