Today’s the Day
I’ve taken a day off of work today. The federal government is opening two hours late due to the snow.
We’re going with the kids and a group from our homeschool co-op to see the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I’ll report back later with reactions to the film.
In the meantime, here are two sites recommended by a member of our co-op: The Narnia Academy and Walden Media: Build Your own Coat of Arms.
UPDATE: Well it was everything I expected, if not quite everything I had hoped. It was faithful to the book and exceptionally well-done. The child actors were excellent, better than expected. The effects did what they needed to do, helping to tell the story without getting in the way. There were no annoying deviations from the book. Thumbs-up. I gave it an A- on Yahoo movies.
Our group had 24 people, mostly kids. The only sour note in the experience had nothing to do with the film itself, but rather the ads shown before the film. As we walked in to the theater with young children in tow, someone thought it was a good time to urge us all to tune in to see, “Sex in the City,” now on five nights a week! It was a matinee of a movie aimed largely at children and based on a C.S. Lewis book — not exactly an appropriate target audience for that ad.

That was good thinking taking a day off. It never snows in Huntsville.
Enjoy the movie (we’re going tonight). We’ll have to compare notes!

We have seven or eight inches of snow here and the schools are closed, but church members are meeting to see the movie tonight.260+ of us bought tickets ahead of time so we will take over the theater.

We are buried under 7 or 8 inches ourselves. However, my school refuses to close. In fact, it has only closed once in 25 years. That span includes two blizzards and three natural disasters!
As a result, I will be sitting down to take a final exam in about 30 minutes.
Outline - Check. Book - Check. Other Notes - Check. Laptop - Check.
Gotta run…

From Memphis,
As one who grew up right off of Lake Michigan in NW Indiana, I envy you all who have the snow. Enjoy — Oh and enjoy the movie too.
