I received this evolutionist “Quote of the Week†in my inbox this morning:
“Human evolution, of course, is responsible for our very long period of childhood, during much of which we are almost completely dependent on our parents. As Ashley Montagu first pointed out decades ago, evolution encouraged the development of larger and larger human brains, but our origins in the primate family placed a limit on the ability of the birth canal to accommodate babies with ever-larger heads. Nature’s solution was to encourage an extremely long period of dependence on the nurturing parent during infancy and childhood, allowing both mind and body to continue developing in an almost gestational way long after birth.†– Al Gore, Earth in the Balance, p. 229.
This is a strange way to support a premise. In the same sentence we are told that evolution is responsible for the development of the human brain (an absolute marvel that doctors even today don’t fully understand — unrivaled by any computer) and yet is incapable of modifying the birth canal to accommodate our incredibly large heads. How on earth did we get from single-celled organism to primate if evolution can’t handle a little modification of bone structure?

This is not the kind of question that true believers are supposed to ask! In fact, true believers aren’t supposed to ask questions. You are allowing reason and logic to get in the way of your belief in “The Mother of all Theories.” You stop right this instant and turn the icon of our beloved Darwin right side up again (oh, the sacrilege!).
The emperor is not naked; he has wonderful new clothes…really. You are tossing about like a ship on the sea. Stop doubting and believe!

Good question!
