More on the Coulter Cancellation
Thanks to Gregg Kendall-Ball for the link. Welcome to readers of his blog. A quick response to his latest post. He writes:
Trying to get Ann Coulter removed because we’re angry that Jeff Walling is not invited just smacks of pettiness. To suggest that THAT is the underlying cause of our protestations about Coulter just shows that those who protest our protestations just weren’t reading closely enough.
I tried to read pretty closely.
The first post I could find on Mike Cope’s blog about this matter was August 20th (CORRECTION: There is an earlier post from August 19th) I linked directly to it. It reads, “Since yesterday I’ve been hearing from fellow Harding alum and parents of Harding students wanting to know WHY Ann Coulter can speak at Harding but Jeff Walling can’t. My encouragement is to call Harding and ask.” Correct me if I’m wrong, but is this not the genesis of phone calls that caused Coulter to be cancelled? There is a clear connection between the Coulter speech and the lack of a Walling speech. It wasn’t “suggested” by others. It was stated explicitly by Mike Cope.
By the way, I don’t think it is petty and didn’t say so. My point was that the decision to invite or not invite one of those speakers should be irrelevant to the decision to invite the other because of the nature and purpose of Harding’s ASI program.

At 8:29 AM, Lucinda Ross said… What really bothers me about this is that a few self-rightous Harding grads threw a temper-tantrum and got their way. You’d think they would be happy and stop talking about it.
But babies who throw temper-tantrums to get their way are never really happy.
